I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Target (La Verne, CA) in Aug 2010
Interview
Applied online, was called for an interview within 5 days. After material was completed online, I was called in to do two back to back interviews with different store managers, consisting of behavioral questions about actions and attitudes, and how to deal with people (both customers and other employees).
They did not attempt any "gotcha" questions, and most questions were able to be answered in one to two sentences. Easiest way to address the questions was to use the STAR method.
Appear to be "fast, fun and friendly" and you should be fine.

Tell me about a time you delivered exceptional customer service.
The interview were very straightforward and the atmosphere was relaxed. I spoke with a shift lead and then the HR manager. The questions were typical and there was some discussions.
It was very quick and I was hired on immediately. I was a college student going to TAMU Galveston at the time. The team was pretty easy going but just not there to help me grow as an individual.

How to handle certain situations that would happen in the real world revolving around a customer.
This was a few years ago, but I just went in and spoke with the manager in their office. Very casual and quick interview. Only 1 interview was required which was nice!
