      Sales Floor Team Member Interview

      Nov 2, 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Canton, MI
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Target (Canton, MI) in Oct 2012

      Interview

Applied for the job online. Got called 2 weeks later to schedule a phone interview. The phone interview questions were common to other reviews on here. Why do you want to work at target? What is one of your weaknesses? Tell me about a time you exceeded expectations? Did well on the interview, scheduled an interview on location for next week. Showed up looking decent (if it looks just barely good enough to wear to a class, it's not good enough for a job interview) took a quick 15-30 minute skills test. The skills test will ask you situational questions, mostly common sense ones such as "is it ever okay to break a rule on the job" and there's also some questions where you have to read a graph of shipping orders. It's just some basic math, such as "If 10 units of product B are shipped at X amount of money per unit, how much total money did the transaction cost?" Then, I was interviewed by a higher-level sales floor member, probably a manager. She asked me some questions that were used in the phone interview such as "why target?" and "what's one of your weaknesses?" she also asked me what my experience was in this field, I told her about how I baby sit and can communicate well, you should too. She asked me what I know about the position. It's basically all about the customer, getting them some help, and communicating with them. She asked me a question that would have been very hard to answer on the spot, but I was prepared for it thanks to this site. Be ready to answer this question: If someone needed help finding something that wasn't on the shelf, how would you go about this? 1. You would check the back. 2. If it's not in the back, send them to guest services to order more of the product. 3. If they can't do that, ask them to leave their number for when a new order of the product comes in. That's the biggest question of the interview, answer it that way without too much studdering or pausing will blow them away.

It was very quick and I was hired on immediately. I was a college student going to TAMU Galveston at the time. The team was pretty easy going but just not there to help me grow as an individual.
