      Cashier Interview

      Dec 8, 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Houston, TX
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Target (Houston, TX) in Dec 2012

      Interview

I filled out the online application and it took a little over a week before I got a call from someone wanting to schedule an over the phone interview. He double checked my open availability and then set up a time I could expect a call. He set it for ten am, but said it could be as late as 12, and asked if I could keep a two hour window open, in case anything happened. On the day I was supposed to get the call, I didn't get it until 1130 because they were having technical difficulties. The phone interview only lasted about 15 minutes. It was very basic questions (I'll list all the ones I remember below) and I was asked to come in for a face to face that day. I came in and had to take a short assessment quiz, and then watch a very short video about Target and what they expect from their "team members". Afterwords I had my face to face interview. The woman interviewing me was very sweet and friendly, just like the other two people I had spoken with, she asked me very basic questions, had me sign a paper agreeing to my open availability, and offered me the job. The next step is talking to the HR manager who takes care of all those details. Some more paperwork, discussion of your wages and hours, and then you're sent to take a drug test at another place, and now I'm just waiting to start.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Here are all the questions I remember. From the phone interview: Why do you want to work at Target? Give me an example of a time you worked together as a team to accomplish a goal. Tell me about a time you had to do more than one thing at once and how did you handle it. What are your strengths and weaknesses? Give me an example of a time that you surprised someone with your exceptional customer service skills. At the face to face interview: Why Target? What are your strengths and weaknesses? If a customer is looking for a pair of shoes, but we do not have their size on the shelf what would you do? A customer comes threw your line and an item rings up 19.99 but they swear it was only 17.99, what do you do? She also asked me why I left my previous employer.

It was overall very brief from applying to hearing back. Was just a day of meeting with a couple managers and talking through a cashier job. Nothing too out of the ordinary for a role like this.
