      Sales Floor Team Member Interview

      Oct 20, 2010
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Target in Oct 2010

      Interview

Target was accepting applications for seasonal positions and I applied online for a local store. I received a phone call the next day, a Monday. I originally applied for Guest Services Team Member (cashier), but I was told the only opening available was for Hardlines Team Member on the sales floor. Hardlines are the people who move merchandise to the front of the shelves in order to make the shelves look like they are always full (Hardlines is everything in the store that is not clothing, Softlines is clothing). They also informed me it was strictly seasonal employment at $8.00 an hour (California minimum wage). I scheduled an interview at the end of the week. The interview process consisted of two interviews, typically on the same day. The other executive team leader (manager) for hardlines was unavailable so I could only do one interview with the second a few days later. Both interviews began with "Describe yourself" and "Why do you want to work for Target." The remaining questions are all behavioral: "Describe a situation where..." Target's interviewer sheet is divided into three columns for each question: Situation, Behavior (action you took), and Outcome. Its easier if you can breakdown your responses into this format or provide information in that format to avoid them needing to ask a lot of followup questions. You also fully answer their questions without them needing to dig around. Each interviewer had a slightly different set of questions, but they focus on the same key areas: customer service, working as a team, and how you deal with difficult situations. Overall, Target provided a fast and friendly interview process. If you pass both interviews, you will be offered a position on the spot contingent on passing a drug test.
