      Administrative Interview

      Oct 7, 2014
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at TechnologyAdvice in Jul 2014

      Interview

I applied online, then within a day I received an email request to set up a phone interview; the phone interview was several days later; the rejection email came two days after that.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Close to the end of the interview, they asked what my desired salary was. I reluctantly answered, lest I seem coy or uncooperative. I understand that this can sometimes save both parties time in the end. But then they asked what I was making in my current position. It is set up so that if the range you have just shared is more than what you are making now, (although mine was not), then you would have to defend it. I don't see a productive reason for this so early in the process. In a personal interview, it felt invasive and aggressive. Other carefully ordered questions also seemed deliberately tricky. I understand the need to weed out those who wouldn’t fit into their culture, but I'm not sure if an antagonistic obstacle course is the way to go about it. I entered the interview very excited and interested in their company, and I came out with a much more negative view.
