My Interview Experience with Tekmetric
I recently went through the interview process for a QA role at Tekmetric, and while I didn't get the job, I wanted to share my experience because it left me with a positive impression of the company.
The HR Interview
The first step was a conversation with HR, and honestly, it was refreshing. The vibe was friendly and genuinely conversational rather than feeling like an interrogation. They asked questions like "What do you know about Tekmetric?", "How do you handle constructive criticism?", and "Tell me about a recent book or show you watched." It was clear they were trying to understand who I am as a person and whether I'd be a good cultural fit, not just checking boxes on a skills list.
The Take-Home Assignment
After the HR screen, they sent a three-day technical assignment. Pro tip: if you search online, you can actually find the assignment beforehand, which gives you a chance to think through your approach before the clock starts. I appreciated having several days to complete it rather than being put on the spot with a live coding test.
The Technical Interview
The second interview focused entirely on walking through my assignment. They wanted to hear me explain my decisions, why I chose certain approaches, and my reasoning behind the code. It felt more like a collaborative discussion than a grilling session.
Final Thoughts
Even though I didn't land the role, I came away respecting how Tekmetric runs their hiring process. It felt thoughtful, fair, and designed to actually understand candidates rather than trip them up. I can tell it's a great company, and I'd encourage anyone in QA to consider them if you're job searching.
