Very accommodating even though the MD had a very busy schedule(obviously), he made time for me and gave me a wide variety of days/times to choose from. Phone Interview- very friendly. Got drilled with straight question after question, very fast-paced, sized me up pretty quickly but appreciated the speed and directness of the questions and interview. No time for small talk. Caught me off guard- but in a good way- realized the firm would be run in a direct, "no waste time" type of approach. Didn't have a traditional background, had 0 finance experience, but said they were open to people with unique backgrounds and with no finance experience, and that they hire people who have unconventional backgrounds. Interviewer(MD) gave some useful advice and recommendations, which I found extremely helpful. Offered to point me in the right direction. Very glad I did this interview and had the conversation, good experience that I'd recommend to anybody. Whether I received an offer or not, a net positive experience.

Applied online, received interview invitation email a week after. First round interviewed directly with the hiring manager but only for 15 minutes... Very short time so need to be prepared for things you'd like to talk about. Basically an intro and why you want this position.

I had a recruiter screen, which was someone a few months into the role and super junior, and I never heard from them again even after they said they would follow up. It just seemed very unprofessional.

What appeals to you about Blackstone?
First round questions were more about fit than anything else. Technical questions did not come up. They were very encouraged by my indication that I would look to be on their team long-term. Ultimately, I did not pursue the opportunity because something more lucrative came along. They indicated a starting salary of $95k, which was not enticing enough relative to comparable positions at other PEs.
