They first called for for a phone interview. It was quite a long phone interview more than just checking on details of CV, it was also on what my interests were and as such. It lasted like 20-25 minutes. They then called in around a week to let me know that I have to been proceeded to second interview stage of video Interview. The Interview was scheduled for a date around a week later. This was my first video interview in my life and also the first interview after I landed in Australia around 2 weeks before. I was quite anxious and was wondering how things will work out. I made the preparation regarding dress up, setup of the background and such as.
The video interview was arranged by external company. It was weird because the audio was through conference call on phone and video was through a link arranged by external company (for which I had to schedule a date few days earlier for checking the details).
The video interview went for around 50 minutes. There were two people, one was their own internal recruiter (who did my phone interview) and lead who was head of the quality team. They explained me of the role and there were series of behavior based questions.
The interview went good enough. As it was my first time in these kind of interview, I was not sure of some of the "must do" and "must don't" even I had quite a bit of research on it. I would say the interview went ok. Now I can pinpoint some of the things I could have said much better. The recruiter was good communicator and cheerful but quality head (lady) did not seem much interested in the interview process. The lack of enthusiasm form the interviewer certainly effects your performance as it makes you confused about "did I say it right?" plus video interview are quite not engaging as face to face.
They called me in like a week to say that they are not processing me to next level, the reason given was that I they thought I was not so fit to be a leader. I liked that they preferred to call and let me know rather than cold way of sending automated rejection letter, but I would also have liked much detailed feedback, as it would help anyone in interview process, special like me who is new to Australian work force.
The position has been open for quite a long time before I applied and remained to be opened for application for like 3/4 weeks after my interview. So they were basically not in hurry to fill the role and were doing as much screening as they could. I want to imagine how many interviews they must have taken for that role.
