Found the job on Craigslist. It was only part time (a few hours and a few days a week) but as it's close to where I live I thought I'd apply and give me something to do while waiting for the next thing. I got a call the next day in the late afternoon but missed it and decided to wait until the following day.
I called mid-morning and spoke to someone who said he'd pass along the message. The recruiter was on another call but was supposed to be done in 15-20 minutes. That was it. I waited around for about an hour then decided it probably wasn't going to be worth it and went about my day. Maybe at most we'd end up playing "phone tag".
The day after that I got a rejection email thanking me for my application and wishing me luck. I can't tell from the email if the recruiter just wanted to let me know and/or she didn't realize I had never interviewed for the position (as she never called back) and I was just part of the pool being rejected. It was also interesting that she didn't offer to keep my resume in mind for future openings, ask if I had seen any openings that had interested me or to apply to any other jobs. Luckily I didn't get too invested and based on the other reviews this just reiterates why I tend to avoid hiring agencies.
