I initially got an email from the owner of the franchise, not 2 minutes after I sent in my application on careerbuilder.com. I initially thought to myself, "Hmm that's weird, I've never been asked to an interview through an email." Clue #1. After doing research, I had read that the school was very money based, but I thought with the location I was going to (Mason, Ohio) that it was a great community (and wealthy) so maybe I'd make a little more money than another daycare.
As soon as I came into the interview, it was super chaotic in the building, and the owner asked me to wait for her in her office. A few minutes later, she came in and asked me for my resume. I gave it to her, and after looking at it for a minute she looks back at me, "I see that you have your degree in early childhood, but are probably unable to find a teaching job in this market, and this is probably your resort to not being able to find anything else. Are you sure that this is what you would be interested in doing?" I was completely taken aback. Never has someone been so rash to make an assumption about me. I answered her question regardless of my feeling insulted. We were then interrupted again by the director and the owner says, "Well I'm going to go ahead an put you in a classroom."
I went into a 3 year old classroom and interacted with them. 15 minutes she came back for me and said, "Well how about I show you around the building." Gives me a tour and then leads me back into her office. She then asks again if I would still be interested in the job. And then what my salary expectations were. I responded at least 12/hr considering I do have my 4 year degree and the job qualifications required one. She then said she could only offer $11/hr. Gave me her card, and said that she wants to hire me, but only if I'm sure that I would be ok with that price.
Bottomline: She didn't care anything about me. The only thing she cared about was that I had the credentials to help them reach their next star of "step up to quality". She never asked me anything about my philosophy, my experience, my discipline police....NOTHING! Why would anyone EVER consider working for someone who cares less about their employees. Extremely unprofessional.
