I applied online. A contract recruiter reached out me and did not provide me with a salary range (I asked). I passed that screen, and went through two rounds of interview, and was eventually provided with an offer. The interview team was nice. The entire process from application to offer took 5 months. The initial offer was so low I did not accept. I later learned that the HR representative gave me the bottom of the pay range which was already below market for this type of role and the job description. During the offer call, the HR rep asked about my current role's signing bonus and other types of questioned referred by him as "due diligence" questions. It felt as if he was fishing for my current compensation because at the end of the call, he presented me with the offensively below market offer. Maybe his due diligence questions resulted in the wrong conclusion that my current salary was ever so low. I obviously countered. The counter was above the role's pay range. But the role was eventually taken off the market. It was a bad experience and waste of time for me.
