I applied online through the Home Depot Software Engineering Internship webpage. Received a phone call asking me to come in for an interview within two to three weeks of applying for the position. The interview date was approximately a week from the said phone call. The interview was purely a technical interview in a group format, proctored by two engineers. The group was given two tasks, one of which was to work together as a team to solve a code puzzle, and the second was a system design problem, which again was to be solved as a team. We were given twenty minutes to solve each task. The entire interview process lasted about an hour.
Tips and helpful thoughts:
My impression is Home Depot values teamwork and collaboration. This means infusing helpful suggestions to the team with thoughtful analysis and productive feedback through proper communication. Be a good problem solver and a better communicator.
Do not stay silent through the group interview--keep talking to your team as your progress through the given tasks.
