      Kitchen and Bath Designer Interview

      Oct 6, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      New York, NY
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at The Home Depot (New York, NY) in Jan 2018

      Interview

The interview was great but I wish they sent me to ATL to learn more about their platform. A lot of it is on the job training but there is updates that you must be aware of. Ask if your store does corporate training in the kitchen design software.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They asked if you have experience with autocad or any design platform.

      Interview

Got a candidate ID and email that said I was moving forward in the hiring process. However, the position is not "Designer - Kitchen/Bath", but "Lumber Sales Associate". It's not what I applied for. Since I already read some comment for the latter position that it goes nowhere, I discontinued the process. What a joke. They post "cool" positions as a bait, with no intend to offer you. Perhaps, they are doing for data mining.

      Application

I applied in-person. I interviewed at The Home Depot (Bowling Green, KY) in Dec 2023

      Interview

The interview process was simi-formal. I was already working with The Home Depot at the time. When I internally applied to the design position, we had a year and a half worth of working together so it was a comfortable interview process. Most of the questioning was geared towards design and experience with design tools.

      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at The Home Depot in Mar 2023

      Interview

I showed up early for my interview and the interview did not begin until 25 min after the agreed upon start time. I went out of my way to pay for printing off my resume, driving to this location (35min away) and all the prep work that AM. I utilized this time to go over any questions I jotted down, observe the team, and the designated location for this role. I walked around this area observing the materials, the organization, and was not approached by the staff member in this area. The 35 min I was there, I barely saw the designer designated to this area. The manager turned down my resume and I was ordered (not asked) to sit in a chair cornered in a small & unorganized room blocking the door. It was very uncomfortable. Immediately, the second manager was unloading on me about how terrible it was completing inventory late that morning. He did not ask my name nor introduce himself to me personally. Employees were frequently popping in during my allotted interview time and possibly unknowingly, interrupting the process. Most people were very friendly though. The second manager came in/out during the middle of the interview and was on his phone/computer majority of the time. However, the manager seemed uninterested in getting to know me, barely asked me questions, didn't create equal opportunity for me to respond, and went off in a lecture majority of the time. I was genuinely excited for this opportunity and spent a lot of time researching the company, including this position. I was told that I was VERY very well qualified and would be hearing back from them early the following week. I never did and instead received emails from the same location for other positions I did not apply nor interview for. I tried calling 3 times and left a voicemail. No one returned my calls. I was very displeased with the lack of opportunity and organization.

      Question 1

They asked me about challenges I faced and how I overcame them.
