References checks became positive, so they told me when the offer will be ready. Everything - including start date - was agreed upon; I was told that the offer is being prepared and will be sent over after some formalities. Eventually they found someone cheaper who has accepted the offer which has never been extended to me, in spite of the repeating promises. I was dealing with very senior people in the company and never suspected that they will not respect their own word!
