I first applied for a role in Cybersecurity and approached the recruiter on LinkedIn. The recruiter was quite impressed with my profile and initiative, so he scheduled a technical interview with 2 leads. The interview went well, and a second interview was arranged with the company's CTSO. During the interview with the CTSO, he showed up 10 minutes late, he did not give me an opportunity to speak and finally said that I was not experienced enough for the role and told me to apply for a Developer position instead. Since I did not want to miss an opportunity, I went ahead to the Developer interview, and was slammed with ridiculous questions way out of my background. I soon realised that they were in a dire need for a Developer and were trying to force me into the role. After this, I did not even receive a call back or email about my performance.
Also, the recruiter asked me what my preferred salary would be to which I responded with the market rate, as per my research. He dismissed me and quoted a much lower salary saying I didn't have the experience to demand such a high salary. Fast forward to two months later, I am now working in a Cybersecurity role that pays me what I had asked for - a fair salary.
Note to The Missing Link - stop taking advantage of people desperately looking for work.
