      Account Manager Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at The Mx Group (Burr Ridge, IL)

      Interview

Applied online at their web site for a position that had been posted at an online job board. Received response to my submission within a few days. A brief phone screen was conducted, and then an onsite interview was scheduled with an HR person in their Burr Ridge, IL office. They require that candidates take a Wonderlic test, and they send you an email with a link that you use to take a practice test before you come to the actual interview. I took the actual Wonderlic upon arrival at the interview. They do let you know your score after you take it. I then had a pretty standard HR interview, where I had to talk through my entire resume and then answer questions about parts of my experience and how I thought it related to the open position. The office space was decent. What I saw was open plan and fairly basic and plain. Office location is in a suburban office park area. Not the best, not the worst. Can't imagine commuting there from the city.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

While no question was really unexpected, the most difficult question for me to answer was why I was interested in business-to-business advertising/marketing and what is so compelling about it compared to other work I've done. I recommend having a very practiced and convincing response for that. If you've only worked in B-to-B marketing you probably have an easy answer as to why you like it. If you have also worked in B-to-C marketing, it will be more difficult to sell them on why marketing industrial fluids will be more interesting and rewarding than marketing Coca-Cola or Pop-Tarts.

      Interview

I received a call from Julie to schedule an in-person meeting with Anna as an initial screen for the position. Julie was very nice and so was Anna. The office has an open, collaborative feel and the employees seemed genuinely happy to be there. I didn't get an offer to move forward with the next steps of the hiring process, but the overall experience was very positive. Before the interview, I had to take the Wonderlic assessment that requires you to answer 50 questions in 12 minutes. It's not very difficult, but you can get distracted by the time. Overall, not a bad experience.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at The Mx Group (Burr Ridge, IL) in Apr 2014

      Interview

Initially went to interview for a sales position but HR recommended I apply to their account management opening. Was told my Wonderlic test scores were above average, which made me confident, but obviously made no difference. Interviewed again with HR & an Account Director, was asked to prepare a presentation for them regarding a made up project. I had 30 minutes to review the material they gave me, answer their questions and prepare 5 slides to present the information. Thought I did well, was told I did well and then.... never heard anything from them. Very bad end to an otherwise pleasant string of calls, interviews and connections.

      Question 1

I was asked to review material from a fake company and create a presentation on the spot.
