It was overall a very pleasant interview process with a very bad ending. First, I spoke with someone on the phone for 15-20 minutes about the position and my qualifications. A week later, I received an email for an in person interview. I met with 2 people in the office and there were 2 more on the phone in the NY office. A little awkward, but everyone was very friendly. There were a lot of questions asked, but nothing that seemed irrelevant or out of left field. I've gone on probably 100 interviews in my life and this was definitely one of the best.
Then, HR ruined it. 3 weeks after my interview, I got a phone call. I was at work so I couldn't answer, but got the message which said, "we're calling to speak with you about the Development and Finance Coordinator position." I called back within 30 minutes. They were out of the office already (3pm PST, but they were in NY). I called back the next morning to be told they chose someone else for the position. This is the first time I have EVER been made to wait and call someone back to be told I didn't get the job. That's so incredibly wrong and unprofessional, especially when you have to wait overnight. I have only ever been left such a vague message when I got the job. If you are calling someone to tell them they didn't get it, you leave that information in the message. You don't play with peoples' emotions like that. I'm grateful I already had accepted another position, otherwise this would have been even more devastating.
