As this was a management position, there were three rounds of interviews; a phone call, a take-home assignment, and an in-person interview. The first round was with a company called OnRamps who were perfectly find and professional. After that, I was given a take-home assignment in which I was asked to analyze a very large data set and answer a list of questions. The assignment was supposed to only take an hour or so, but I spent about five hours for various reasons; first off, the data set was so huge that it crashed every computer I tried to work on it on (including my very nice work computer). The list of question was bizarre; for example, they asked for me to talk about current problems within the organization that I would fix - but as an outside hire, how would I know what current issues they were experiencing? I spent hours researching the history of the org to have something to say, but when we reviewed it at the in-person interview, the interviewers didn't seem to care about the assignment at all. In hindsight, I honestly suspect that this was a ploy to get a bunch of people to do data analysis for free.
