A couple of weeks after applying, I got contacted for a phone screen, which I thought went rather well. I was told that I would hear something the next week about whether or not I was going to move on to the next part of the process. I didn't hear anything the next week.
The interviewer had warned me that the entire process could be delayed a little, so I waited an additional week and then followed up to ask if I was still under consideration for the role. I received NO response. I waited a few more weeks and checked in again. Nothing. Then I noticed they had reposted the job listing on their website. I was pretty sure at this point that I was no longer being considered, but I followed up again just to make sure. Nothing.
If they take candidates to at least the phone screen stage of the interview process, they should have the courtesy to at least send a quick email rejection if the candidate is not moving forward.
