I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at The Y (YMCA) (Philadelphia, PA) in May 2013
Interview
Interview was relatively painless, but the wait time due to management waiting to hear back from references was a pain. The actual interview was nothing more than a few questions about pool safety and the mandatory fitness testing, including swimming 12 consecutive laps, treading water, and retrieving a brick off the bottom of the pool.

Question 1
Mainly questions about pool safety and lifeguarding background.
Smooth and welcoming. The interaction was positive and conversation flowed nicely throughout. I felt like my answers were being listened to, and that the interviewers were very engaged with me and what I had to say.

Question 1
What my background was and how it would fit into this role
very good. good people there who work there and i like to work there because it is very fun being outside and talking with good people and free popsicles and the interviewer was nice and respectful and all oof that.
The interview process was overall easy. You just need to have your certifications, you need to pass a breathing test, and you need to pass a swim test. Pretty easy interview.
