I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at The Y (YMCA) (New York, NY) in May 2013
Interview
First, you interview with the site coordinator. They ask if you feel comfortable singing with the kids, do you know group games such as head shoulders knees and toes and would you be okay planning lessons. They also ask if you know CPR. Also a variety of children awareness questions. After interviewing with the site coordinator you go into training. And have to do a variety of activities and lessons.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Do you know any group activities? And can you lead us in them?
Very casual, my interviewer kept things focused on my ability to work with children, public speaking, and working on a team. If you have any experience with working with kids, be sure to have some stories of how you have dealt with incidents relating to behavior.
Group interview with other canidates and panelists. Mostly get to know you style and situtational tasks. You will be interviewing alongside other canidadtes so make sure you stand out and seem unique. Howeer don;t overdo it and remain humble and willing to learn.
