The process began with a phone screening conducted by a recruiter. This initial conversation focused on discussing my background, experience, and expectations for the position. The recruiter was friendly and professional, allowing me to showcase my qualifications and express my interest in the role. The recruiter sent me an email with the date and time to meet the team lead who was in India at that time, (9 AM California time, 10 PM Indian time).
The technical interview started off on a disappointing note due to the unprofessional conduct of the designated interviewer. Despite having a scheduled interview time, the interviewer was significantly late for the interview without offering an apology or explanation for the delay. This lack of punctuality showed a disregard for the candidate's time and set a negative tone for the interview. Furthermore, during the interview, technical difficulties arose as the interviewer initially couldn't hear me. After switching from Zoom to Google Meet, the issue was resolved, but we decided to both restart our computers and switched back to Zoom, which was an inconvenience and disrupted the flow of the interview.
Rather than handling the situation with empathy and understanding, her response was curt and unsympathetic, stating, 'NEXT TIME MAKE SURE YOUR MIC IS WORKING IF YOU HAVE AN INTERVIEW.' This type of response is unprofessional and lacks the necessary understanding that technical difficulties can happen to anyone.
Throughout the interview, the designated interviewer demonstrated a lack of attentiveness and engagement. Simple questions were asked, but it was evident that the interviewer did not pay attention to my answers. This lack of genuine interest in my responses made me feel undervalued as a candidate and undermined the purpose of the interview.
The experience with the interviewer left a lasting negative impression, ultimately leading me to decide not to pursue any further opportunities with Thrive Market. It was clear that working under this particular individual would likely result in an uncomfortable and unprofessional working environment. I would not recommend others to work with this person, as their communication style and interviewing approach differed significantly from what I have experienced before.
It is important for companies to prioritize professionalism, respect, and effective communication throughout their interview process. Unfortunately, my encounter with the interviewer at Thrive Market fell short in these aspects, leaving me with a negative perception of the company as a whole.
