Mine was non-traditional as I spoke to the hiring manager before the recruiter, BUT the standard process would have been a generic phone screen first. The recruiter I spoke with felt very quick to assume and didn't really dig into my experience or try to learn about me. They were very set on checking boxes, and while warm didn't leave a lasting impression.
However, once that's passed an interview with the hiring manager was scheduled followed by a portfolio review. The portfolio assignment was 3 sections with 2 parts each, so while brief I still crafted mine pretty sharply (in my opinion), and was ghosted afterwards.
I believe this was due to my lack of experience with a specific system that was not mentioned or discussed as a requirement during any of the steps prior, so the entire process felt like a waste of time.
