Applied and was contacted ~4 weeks later for an interview. Had the interview and was told I would hear from HR in 3-4 business days. Never heard from them again.

I was initially offered this role on July 8, 2021. I had some questions at that time and responded to HR, however the contact was out of the office until the month. PLEASE READ - AT THIS TIME I HAD ALREDY ACCEPTED A ROLE WITH ANOTHER PHILANTHROPIC COMPANY, HOWEVER FELT MORE ALIGNED WITH TIDES. I spent the weekend of July 10/11 weighing out all my options and on the morning of Monday, July 12, wrote to the Tides team kindly declining the presented offer. Tides failed to acknowledge my email, until 8-hours later when I received a call from HR. I was told, "The Grants team wants you. You are their number one. What questions might I answer to help you reconsider Tides?" I asked a lot of questions, all of which HR handled, even going as far to set up another call with the Director the following day. After that call, I knew that Tides was the right choice for me. I confirm this with the team later in the afternoon of the 13th. Within 15-minutes, the Director enthusiastically wrote back and - please read this next part loud and clear - this was the last time I ever heard from the Director. Considering I needed to let the other job know about my change in employment, I was seeking an updated offer letter as soon as possible. I wrote to the Director on Wednesday, July 14 asking about the next steps. I never heard from her. I called their office and was transferred to the Directors phone, to find out that the voicemail was full and could not get through. I called again and the gentleman who picked up was incredibly helpful, going as far to send Slack messages to the team. Ultimately I was convinced that since I was "Tides number one..." choice, that everything would work out just fine. I turned down the other offer and anxiously awaited word next steps. Two days later on the morning of July 15, I emailed the Director again. Still having not heard anything by 6:19p on the 15th, I decided to circle back again, this time copying HR in hopes that someone - anyone - would get back to me. No one did. I then wait until Monday, July 19 to email Tides as we are now one week away from my start date. It was not until 9:39a on Tuesday, July 20 - 6 days, 16 hours, and 53 minutes after I last heard from the Director - that they finally wrote back to me. This time they said, "Upon further reflection and interaction, we have determined that your skills do not fit as closely as initially thought with the requirements of the position." As you might imagine, I was stunned and confused and eventually collapsed from the disbelief. I wrote to the team demanding a call to understand when, why, and how things changed. I had an opportunity to connect for a third time with the Director. In this call, I was given three reasons as to why their decision changed... 1: "It was perceived by Tides that your values were not aligned." 2: "You had too frequent communication." 3: "Your emails went to too wide of audiences." I explicitly asked what values I did not align with and was never given an answer. Instead I was fed the typical HR line, "We are so sorry that this opportunity did not work out and we wish you the best moving forward." Ironically, during the interview process, everyone on their team praised me for my alignment and commitment to Tides and the work. It is hard for me to understand "too frequent communication" and to "too wide of audiences" as my life, livelihood, and health were at risk and no one - I repeat no one - from their team returned my calls or emails. I was gaslit by the Tides staff and made to believe it was my fault for not asking about references or a background check when I explicitly asked about these in my initial email on July 13th. I refuse to accept that it was my values when no one provided me substantial feedback. Tides strung me along and failed me - and I suspect I am not the only one based on other reviews seen here. Dare I say that it was when I began to inquire about next steps and then follow-up with folks - demonstrating initiative and transparent communication - that the Director felt threatened. They hid behind a screen and never once checked in, something I would have expected from an individual in a Director role. Apply with caution, y'all and remember... If they don't get back to you, I guess you are supposed to sit back and relax...
