I applied in-person. I interviewed at Tillys (Valencia, CA) in Apr 2011
Interview
I filled out an application and brought it into the store. Right when I handed my application in the manager asked me what day I could come in for an interview. When that day came I walked into the store very confident and was told to wait by the shoes until it was time for the interview. While I was waiting AT LEAST 11 other people showed up for the interview, the largest group interview I have ever had. It was extremely uncomfortable. When the time struck a manager and assistant manager came to get us and basically sardine packed us into the back room. We had to ask questions by raising our hands and going around in a circle. We also had to role play different scenarios where one person was a customer looking for a specific item and the other person was the sales associate.
It was held as a group interview, fairly easy. The hardest part was the sales pitch for an item in the store. Everyone in the group answered the same questions one at a time. There were around 6-8 people in each group.
Super calm and friendly! Felt like such a nice conversation and felt like I was part of the team already, they really listened to me. I felt like they wanted me to succeed and I did!
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
If an item isn’t selling, how would you ensure it did?
Occurred in a group setting. I always recommend being very respectful, do not speak over others, but when you can add after another interviewees turn, try to include your own response.
