I applied in-person. I interviewed at Tillys (Algonquin, IL)
Interview
I walked in with my application and asked to see a manager. I introduced myself to her and gave her my application. She told me she would call me within a week to schedule my interview, which she did. I went in for my interview which ended up being with three other people. (None of which ended up being hired). She started with her first question and I went first and then we just went around in the circle. We stayed with this pattern for the rest of the interview. She asked us to give her an open ended question and I actually really screwed that part up but I kind of just went "oops" and she laughed about it. She said she liked us all and would call us all within two days to schedule our second interview with the manager, which again, they did. This time I had the interview with just one other person (who also got the job). They said they would call us in a few days to let us know their decision. After about three days with no call, I called them to see if they had made a decision and they said they hadn't and would call me the next day to let me know. The next day they called and offered me the job starting at minimum wage and asked me if I could come in that night to start training.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Give me an example of an open ended question.
Whats the difference between sales and service?
Describe your style?
Why Tilly's?
Where else do you shop?
What is something you struggle with?
I didn't get asked this but the person from the second interview said they were asked to go onto the floor and make an outfit in her first interview.
It was held as a group interview, fairly easy. The hardest part was the sales pitch for an item in the store. Everyone in the group answered the same questions one at a time. There were around 6-8 people in each group.
Super calm and friendly! Felt like such a nice conversation and felt like I was part of the team already, they really listened to me. I felt like they wanted me to succeed and I did!

Question 1
If an item isn’t selling, how would you ensure it did?
Occurred in a group setting. I always recommend being very respectful, do not speak over others, but when you can add after another interviewees turn, try to include your own response.
