      Interview

Recruiter screen: Recruiter spent 75% of the call bragging about his history and why he joined tock. Technical screen: leetcode with a spin requiring esoteric mathematics knowledge, for some reason. Ghosted after the technical screen. First time being ghosted by any company after technical screen.

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Tock in Oct 2022

      Interview

A whole lot of talking to many people for many hours during the workday. At the end of each conversation, a technical challenge was given. I spent easily 6 hours doing this interview process over 2 days. Had pretty good discussions with the technical people. The hiring manager however was disinterested almost immediately, and spent more time clicking around on his computer than engaging in the conversation. It only got interesting when told me what the job would actually entail. The role was not exactly appealing to me once it became more clear what they were after. Perhaps that was noticeable- my change in attitude, or perhaps I didn't excel during a part of the challenge, unsure.. but to be 100% ghosted after this process speaks broadly to the culture of this place. Truly I cannot fathom why you wouldn't spend 10 seconds to at least write back on an email that you're going another direction. For one, a LOT of my time spent before you even told me what the job really was. They were very cryptic & that's not appreciated. But even if it wasn't the right fit, a simple reply should be pretty much mandatory after you had a candidate invest this much time. Cmon. Clearly cultural issues at this place.

      Interview

Went through a full circuit (recruiter call, 45 minute technical, 5x 45 minute behavioral/technical) and I am incredibly disappointed by Tock. First, the recruiter kept trying to explain the STAR method and how to talk to interviewers (I have 8 YOE). This call was scheduled for 30 minutes and went for an hour, most of which was him talking about how he is a kind recruiter not like other recruiters. In one of my interviews, I was repeatedly asked backend questions and they kept pressing about databases, even after I made it clear that I am a frontend engineer. The director of engineering spent most of the time just typing on his computer. I tried to start conversation but was unable to communicate with him. I have heard nothing back, many weeks later. I am so disappointed at how this was handled by the company and my recruiter.

      Question 1

Weird backend questions for a frontend engineer and general behavior questions about past projects.
