      Underwriter Interview

      Nov 16, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Cincinnati, OH
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Tokio Marine HCC (Cincinnati, OH) in Aug 2018

      Interview

Applied online received a phone interview about a week later. Two weeks after the phone interview I was asked to come in for a face to face interview. I met with the whole team. First with the head of the department. He was hard to read and always seemed to talk over me. He went over the history and the job it self. He actually ended up bashing his old company as this department was new as of early 2018. I felt that was very unprofessional. Next I interviewed with the head manager and a underwriter on his team. They both ask me 2-3 general interview questions ( explain your prior position, tell me about a time when...) Then the floor was open up for me to ask questions. I asked 2-3 questions and once my last question was answered the head manager said " come on you have to have more questions!" 2-3 questions to the interviewer is pretty standard so I was taken aback that he wanted more questions from me. It seemed more so that he wasn't really prepared to be conducting an interview. He made it very clear it was more important for me to be able to fit in with the team then my ability to do the job. Next I interviewed with two more people on the team. They asked about my last role then immediately switched to asking questions about my personal life ( was I married, how many children I had, if I wanted more...) at the time of the interview I did answer these questions however I learned later from a job coach that these questions are illegal. One of the employees even asked if I could handle this role being that I was married and the role required once a month travel. Also that they did a lot of happy hours after work and would I be able to attend as my husband would want me home. At that point I knew I was not being selected for this role and was ok with it as it was nothing I thought it would be and the team came off very judgemental about my family life ( which shouldn't have mattered in the first place). Since I was married there was no way I would be able to fit in with this team apparently. Overall the interview was 2 hours long. I was told at the end I would be hearing back within 3 weeks. its officially been 12 weeks from the interview and I haven't even received a denial email. Defiantly feel this was not the company for me as they were very unprofessional and couldn't even take the time to send an automatic denial email.

      Interview

I recently had the pleasure of participating in a job interview with Surety group in Los Angeles, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. From start to finish, the process was well-organized, efficient, and engaging. The recruiter, Cindy, who initially contacted me was friendly and professional, and provided all the necessary information about the job and the interview process. She was very prompt in responding to my questions and concerns leading up to the interview and throughout the rest of the process. During the interview itself, I was impressed by the level of preparation and attention to detail demonstrated by the interviewers. They asked insightful questions that allowed me to showcase my skills and abilities. The interviewers was friendly and personable that allowed for a productive conversation. I felt like they were genuinely interested in getting to know me and making sure it was a mutual cultural fit.

The interview was very straightforward and the questions were standard interview questions. The interviewers were nice and tried to keep it light while asking valuable questions. Both the interviewers asked questions.
