Recruiter call (30m) -> Interview with Tech Lead (1hr) -> Interview with the team (1hr) -> Interview with Director of Engineering.
Completed all of their interviews, during the last interview which was with their director of engineering I got told that they'll reach out to me by the end of the week (it was wednesday).
Then friday night comes, and there's nothing. I didn't think much of it because things shift sometimes, so I figured maybe I'll get a reply on monday. Then I got nothing on monday, so I reached out in the morning on tuesday and politely asked for an update.
Again, absolute radio silence. Then on wednesday I got an email after work hours that they went with other candidates - it was an automated email, not an actual reply from the recruiting manager.
I understand that the other candidate(s) must've been a better fit, and that's obviously fine, but during my last interview I was told that "I've done pretty well so far" and I got compliments on my answers during my interview with the team, so I had a positive impression of how the hiring process was going so far, so the fact that they left me hanging for 3 days past their own deadline of feedback and then couldn't even bother answering my email and just sent me an AUTOMATED REPLY is pretty frustrating.
I understand the job market is bad, but that doesn't excuse bad manners that is lack of basic human decency of taking 2 minutes out of your day to reply to my email asking for an update, letting me know that they went with another candidate, as opposed to having an automatic reply.
