My initial interview with the recruiter, Nicole, lasted roughly an hour. It was a very pleasant and honest experience. It wasn't your typical interview in that she didn't stick to a generic script of questions that wouldn't give her a real sense of who I am, which I liked. It felt more natural and not as stiff and rigid as most job interviews. We definitely went off topic a few times, and it honestly felt more like having a good chat with a friend. I feel like this was intentional, a tactic used in order to get the interviewee to loosen up and be more natural. It definitely worked and definitely helped calm any jitters that I may have had (it was my first interview with a new company in 8 years).
My second interview was with the lead developer, with whom I would be working the closest; this interview immediately followed the first. It was a more traditional interview in that the questions were more pointed and dealt with my experience and skills more directly. He wanted to ensure I had the necessary skill-set in order to assist the development team in the best way possible and that we would be a good personality wise. It too was a very good interview, all the questions were relevant with nothing extraneous being asked.
And my third interview, with the Chief Strategist, was held at a Starbucks near my house (this is out of the norm, but was necessary due to some personal timing issues on both sides of the aisle). It was a very relaxed atmosphere and was more or less a 'get to know you' meeting. He wanted to ensure I would be a good fit for the company as a whole, not just the development team where I would be spending most of my time. We spent almost two hours discussing various topics such as my previous employment, my feelings and opinions of said employer, and what I really wanted out of the position for which I was applying. It was a great talk that really gave me an accurate sense of what was going to be expected of me, and what I could expect of the company.
On the whole, I really appreciate the way in which this company interviews and the lengths they go to to ensure that they are hiring the right person for the position. There are a lot on contributing factors they take into consideration and it really results in a great environment within the office.
