      Sales Team Member Interview

      Aug 7, 2011
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Columbia, MD
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Toys "R" Us (Columbia, MD) in Aug 2011

      Interview

When you apply, you must take an online personality/skills test. All of the questions in the test were unrelated to the job description. Some of the questions were conventional wisdom questions like how to treat a customer. If you pass the test, then you will be asked to come in for an interview. The next step is the interview at the store with two employees in the training room. The interview had two segments: group and two on one. During the group interview, the employees gave information about the company and position. The next part consisted of conducting an interview with the other applicant and taking notes. You would then use those notes to explain why this person would be a great fit for the company. After that, you would swap roles with the other applicant. This part of the interview was immensely gratuitous. What was the significance of explaining why another applicant would be a great fit for the company? Next, you had to pick any item from the store and sell it to the employees. You are given a minute or two to retrieve the item and sell it. The final part was the two on one interview. All of the employees were dressed casually in a red uniform (shirt). One of the interviewers was using her handheld transceiver during the interview, and this was drastically unprofessional. If you are going to conduct an interview, then you should accentuate some professionalism. Two days after the interview, I received a rejection email from the HR Department. They never gave rationale behind their decision. As far as advice, you should select an item you are familiar with and comfortable selling.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

How would you define your management style? What do you like the most/least about your previous jobs? How would you deal with a bad employee? Where do you fit in here? Why Toys R Us? Why this position? What is your long term goal? Give an example of when you had to deal with an angry customer. Give an example of when you gave great customer service. What concerns you about this position? Give an example where you had a tough time adjusting in a previous job. Why this retail environment?

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Toys "R" Us (Orem, UT)

      Interview

Applied online. Was called in for a group interview. I was among about 10 other interviewees. We all sat in the office together with the Store Manager and Human Resource Supervisor. They asked us each a few questions in front of everyone. Then we were split in to two teams and presented with a couple of buckets of Legos on the table. We were told that each team had to come up with an idea for a toy, and design it out of Legos. It had to be a toy that you could also think of "add-on" toys for. Someone from the team then had to pitch and "sell" the toy line to the room. After the group interview we were each pulled in to speak 2 on 1, and told if we were being extended the job offer or not.

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Toys "R" Us in Jul 2016

      Interview

Applied on a Sunday got a call on Monday to set up an interview on Tuesday. Group interview with 4 others. It was a really comfortable setting we all introduced ourselves and said our favorite toy as a kid. We then were asked to build something and tell them what we built and why. Next we were asked to go get any toy we wanted from the floor and sell it to them. I recommend practicing this because I did so I went first. After we finished we returned the toys to where we grabbed them and were then told they would call us in separately for an interview and after we were free to leave. While they were talking with one person they rest of us were getting to know each other. I would say it was actually a pretty fun group interview. They told me they would tell me by 5pm the next day if I got the job. They ended up calling me and hour after to offer me the job and submitted a background check. Once it cleared orientation was set up the following day.
