Interview
Despite what I read on this website, the interview for the Sales Associate position was 1:1 with the Assistant Manger and 1:1 with the Manger. Though there were people interviewing me before and after, a group interview never occurred. I applied and was called about three days later to interview. When I got there, they made me wait at the baby registry where pregnant female customers were complaining that we should not have scheduled our interviews in the middle of the day, since they needed help and only the store managers were available. They then changed their minds, realizing that we were being interviewed for that exact reason: the story was very understaffed. The assistant manager was very prompt and brought me into the interview room within five minutes. She told me straight away that I would be interviewing with her, and then afterward with the Manager, who had the final decision. She felt it necessary to mention to me that she had dozens of interviews to conduct, which put on the pressure for time. But she was pretty nice. There was a lot of skepticism in the first interview over whether I'd be just "looking to kill a few months" since I am still in school. In the second interview, the Manager seemed way too perky and I got the feeling that she was humoring me out of professionalism. I felt overqualified to work in the sales position, though I'm not the typical demographic you'd see working on the floor of a store carrying baby supplies. There were also several questions about why I would want to work for minimum wage when I made more before. I didn't understand how the state of the economy didn't translate better, and got the feeling that the interviewer felt that I was going to quit after finding a better job. The central question, as noted below, is why I would want to work at Babies R Us specifically. The assistant manager implied that she didn't want someone who had the "a job is a job" mentality; she wanted someone who desired to work at Babies R Us over any other store.
Explain to me the Buyer Protection policy of Babies R Us. Are you comfortable selling our policies and warranties to customers, along with other additions?
Super nice and friendly interviewer. They told me about the company and the position and asked a few questions. They also let me ask some questions at the end as well
Geoffrey was attentive and kind. Guided me through the whole catalog. Would recommend him all the time, every time to whomever will listen. He took the time to explain the great deals.
I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Toys "R" Us (London, England)
