I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Toys "R" Us (Henrietta, NY) in Sep 2009
Interview
I applied online and received a call within three hours, but others have taken as long as a week to get a reply. They bring everyone in as a large group and you partake in three different "games" the first is to pass around a roll of toilet paper, and for as many sheets as you take you need to tell the group that many things about yourself. Secondly, you split into partners and you have to build a toy together. Nothing fancy, just a potato head type toy. To test for your ability to work together. Third, they assign a role playing game and you give your answer. ex) some people will be asked how they would sell a particular stroller to a customer, others would be asked to explain a seminar the store was hosting, and others would be asked how to solve a customer complaint. Then, they send some home, and ask some to stay. The ones that stay then talk to an assistant manager or HR. Typical questions...how would you do selling items, how would you handle a complaint...how would you describe an instance of great customer service in your life... ect. THEN you may get asked to see the store manager who asks a few basic questions of the same things you've already answered, and then they call you back in a day or two to offer you a job.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
If a customer tells you you're wrong on the information you are presenting to them about a particular stroller, how do you proceed?
Super nice and friendly interviewer. They told me about the company and the position and asked a few questions. They also let me ask some questions at the end as well
Geoffrey was attentive and kind. Guided me through the whole catalog. Would recommend him all the time, every time to whomever will listen. He took the time to explain the great deals.
I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Toys "R" Us (London, England)
Interview
Standard interview with competency questions, especially communication skills, and gauging if candidate would be a good fit for the company culture. After the interview received a call within 2 weeks.
