      Cashier Interview

      Mar 2, 2011
      Anonymous employee
      Charlottesville, VA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Toys "R" Us (Charlottesville, VA) in Oct 2010

      Interview

I was called a couple hours after applying online to set up a group interview. There were three interviewers: the store manager, the hiring manager, and another "Back of House" guy. The interview had 4 people, but I heard there could be more. Interview is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from normal interviews. We had to each: (1) "act" out our favorite cartoon character by giving a famous line they do or whatever (2) "sell/present/advertise" a toy to them as if it were a TV commercial. They give you 10 minutes to look at the toy to prepare and (3) we had to give a mini-speech as if we were accepting an award from Toys R Us (or it could be "why should we hire you?"). The three managers went in the back room to discuss the interviews and called each person back individually where they told you if you were hired or not and to discuss salary and etc. They give you a call in a couple days after background checks come back and then you set up a start date. I thought I was applying for a regular part-time position, but it only ended up being seasonal! Unfortunately they let all the seasonal employees go after the holiday season ended, but they do keep some seasonal workers after the season depending on their staffing needs. Overall it was good to work there, and I might possibly apply again when they hire again if it is regular and not seasonal.
