The interview process is very poor- from someone who is coming from a sales background and was a top producer at my previous company. I was interviewed by two managers in the 2nd round- both of which were arrogant and abrasive when asked hard questions about the roll. I asked them how often they receive and convert inbound leads to sales and the response I got was “could you ask a better question”. Super unprofessional.
The next round was a mock discovery call, where they provided extremely vague information in regards to how to properly prepare, which is obviously intended to make you ask questions prior. When I did so, I was met with equally vague answers. When it came time to do the discovery call, one of the managers did everything in his power to try to stonewall me, to an extent that was very strange. Coming from a sales roll, discovery calls were something I did daily but the amount of resistance I received from the manager was WAY over the top- like they wanted me to fail instead of see how I overcome situations of adversity. For an entry level SDR roll with a low base salary and OTE, they honestly need to relax.
In full transparency, even if I was offered this roll I would have never have taken it. Being this was one of my first interviews in my job search, it definitely put a bad taste in my mouth. I was happy to find much more established tech companies in the Austin area that displayed much more transparency and professionalism then Trace did, and accepted a position at a much more prominent company.
My gut tells me this start up is filled with young and arrogant managers who set unreasonable expectations on their employees. On top of that the product is super niche and expensive, which will make selling it very difficult. There are plenty of tech companies/start ups in the Austin area looking for sales professionals, my suggestion would be to spend your time interviewing with something more established and professional (CrowdStrike/Disco/Oracle etc)
