      Senior Tax Reporting Specialist Interview

      May 9, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at TradeStation in Jan 2015

      Interview

I was contacted via email within 9 days after remitting my resume which was relatively quick. First, I interviewed via phone with HR, and it went pleasantly well. She asked the "generic" questions expected from an HR rep, and before the conclusion of our call, she asked for my availability for the following week so that I may interview with hiring manager for the position I applied to. This commence my first round. The Manager of the potential department I would have worked with was genuinely nice, and we hit it off immediately. Before our conclusion, he asked if I would be open to flying down to FL since I am based in NJ for an in person interview, to which I obliged if the opportunity presented itself. I haven't heard from either the HR rep or the Manager until roughly one month later. (Extreme slow process). During this month, I had another interview with the Manager via Skype, and next an interview with his Manager via phone. So a total of 4 interviews. While interviewing with his manager, I must say that was the dullest interview I've ever had. His voice was monotone, and he didn't answer my Tax related questions in my opinion correctly. He would stray so far away from question and answer with a response that was totally different than my question. Since I am located in NJ, he mentions if I have any relocation questions then it should be directed to HR because he can't assist me with that. However, I never broached the words "HR" or 'Relocation" into my interview, which I thought well maybe since the Hire Ranking person broached the word Relocation, well it is a possibility I will get offered this position. As my background clearly mirrors the job description and I come from a renowned company, meaning one of the biggest names on the street. To say my intuition was wrong is an understatement. Because of his need to brush me off of the phone call, and not answer my tax related questions accordingly, my gut told me I wouldn't get the position, but when he uttered relocation, I said maybe I may get offered the job after all. 3 months go by, and I send an follow up email to HR, who informed me the department has placed the position on hold until after tax season, so that is why I haven't heard from them since January 2015. These people do not communicate with you, you as an candidate have to communicate with them. Within her email she continues, "we will contact you within the next week, to relay the final steps". That next week, at least she kept her word, as I did receive an email, but the automated generic, "we don't want you letter". Which was fine. I just wished they had sent me the letter the moment my last interview ended with monotone, because at that point I am quite sure they knew they weren't moving forward with me, but straddled people along just because they can. At the end of the day, I am glad I wasn't selected, since the reviews for this company is bad. But because I established a connection with the manager, there was an ounce of optimism that resonated, because he seemed like a real genuine cool manager that I would have liked to work with. And lets be honest, the job is based in the Ft Lauderdale area which also was a plus, since I am Jersey native.
