The interview process was very laid back and conversational. I had an initial phone screening with an HR partner and then two interviews in person. For the in-person interview, I met with the hiring manager and one other team member. For the second interview, I met with 6 other team members in an hour. Again, the conversations were very laid back, almost to the point where I did not feel like I had to chance to fully explain my experience, skills, or qualifications. I was even told to bring my portfolio and examples of my work, which no one asked for.
Overall, my negative experience comes from the lack of communication I received after my interviews. I was told that I would hear back about a decision by the end of the week. I reached out a few times (weeks after my interview) and never got a response back from the HR or hiring manager. It took me sending a stern email after almost a month to finally get any information back. They told me that they had already gone with another candidate and were considering me for another position. This would have been fine, but to wait almost a month to give me this information (after multiple attempts and a frustrating email) is extremely disappointing. Also, I was told that the reason I didn't hear back in a "timely matter" was that the HR partner was considering me for another position. If that were the case, when were you planning on contacting me about the possible opportunity?
I understand that there may have been several reasons why I did not hear back, but I believe that if I spent the time and effort to apply and interview for this position, I deserve the respect of receiving an update. Regardless of whether I would have received the job or not, I expected the same effort and courtesy that I showed.
