Product Director, Demand Response - Remote (WFH) Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Trapeze Group (Mississauga, ON) in Feb 2019

      Interview

First interview by phone with three members of engineering team. Asked several questions about my background followed by exploration of my knowledge of transportation industry. Interview went very well. Several weeks after first interview, I had yet another phone interview, also by phone, this time with hiring manager. Was asked several questions about how I would go about growing/expanding sales within business segment. Conversation a bit stilted but, all-in-all, it went pretty well. A couple of weeks after second interview, I was asked to fly up to company offices in Toronto for a face-to-face third interview. I again met with hiring manager and a couple other members of product team. Interview went well (although I was asked same questions as in second interview) but was very short (<45 minutes) given that they paid for me to make the long trip there. Kinda’ strange... Given the amount of time over two months that they invested interviewing me and flying me up to their corporate offices, I was confounded by the fact that I never received an offer or a polite “no thanks”. One week after my last interview, I had a missed call from their HR person but when I almost immediately called back, I was routed to voice-mail. Although I left a message, they never contacted me again. Curious aside: When I checked-out of the hotel that they had booked for me (a VERY large and expensive two bedroom suite), I was surprised/shocked to learn that the stay was not paid for! Had I known that I was paying for my own accommodations, I would have booked myself a far more affordable hotel. Weird...
