BEWARE OF UNFAIR HIRING PRACTICES! Avoid and don’t waste your time if you are a female looking at Finance roles.
I echo the sentiments of another interviewee who described their experience as a waste of time. It appears Twitch is only interviewing specific candidates to meet their diversity quota and in the process disrespecting candidates. In 2020, I interviewed for a total of 3 roles for Twitch.
The first was for a role on their corp finance team. They kept me engaged for a month telling me they were very interested in me only to reject me a month later because the role was cancelled.
The second was on ops fin and took a total of 4 months from application date to rejection. In this case, it all started wrong from the beginning. The recruiter rejected my application because I dared to follow-up post 2nd phone interview. About a month later, she reached out to me again apologizing with the sorry excuse that she had mistakenly rejected me. I did 2 more rounds of interview (phone and virtual) and the direct team loved me and my experience. They had also received good feedback from my initial interview with the corp team but ultimately rejected me on the basis that I changed jobs too often and they didn’t feel comfortable with this. Through a Linkedin search I was able to find the person who they did hire over me and it is just mind blowing! It turned out to be someone very junior who they promoted into this senior role, someone who had much more turnover than I did (their longest tenure in a position was a year and 7 months otherwise they turned over every half a year or so), someone who was from Southern California and who they’d have to relocate, and on top of it all, a male!!! If this isn’t discrimination I don’t know what is.
Even though I was pretty upset, when the recruiter suggested I speak to the corp team again as they had a new role open I agreed. Unfortunately, this conversation’s seemed to be for the sole purpose to drag me further on why I would not be a good fit for Twitch. And mind you, this was the same very first hiring manager who I had spoken to months before and who was very well aware of my work history so why was it even now an issue when initially it wasn’t? Because your bros disapproved and so you jumped on that bandwagon? Obviously they’d all seen my resume beforehand so I can’t understand why that would even be a problem for them.
Twitch definitely seems to embrace the bro culture (all folks who interviewed me were males except for the recruiters) and their unfair hiring practices reflect so. My advice to candidates is make sure you put the recruiters on pedestals because they have no care in matching the right candidates since their candidate supply is so high, and make sure you study the bro culture if you really wanna get in Twitch because that’s the only way you’ll get in with the team.
The interview process was frustrating and disorganized, lasting nearly three months. While the initial HR screening was positive—HR remained helpful and responsive throughout—the experience with the hiring manager was disappointing. He came across as arrogant and dismissive, showing little regard for fostering a respectful dialogue. He also appeared unclear about what he was looking for in a candidate, which added to the confusion and frustration. The steps included multiple rounds: screening with HR, a call with the hiring manager, a take-home assessment with a follow-up discussion, and two final interviews with other direct managers. The overall timeline was long and drawn out, leaving a negative impression of the company's hiring practices and leadership.
Initial phone screen with HR, then technical interview with hiring manager, followed by super day with 5-6 other individual from the team. Questions were behavioral, market specific, and financial modeling
Began with phone screen with hiring manager, then a follow up with recruiter. After a couple weeks was invited to superday which consisted of 5 interviews with members of the team. All behavioral questions.
