      Interview

I applied through college or university. I interviewed at UBS (New York, New York) in late 2018, about 2-3 weeks after I applied. Interview: Two 1:1 interviews with members of a group working at UBS under their Wealth Management Division. Each interview lasted about 30 minutes. Basic questions such as "Why do you want to work here? Walk me through your resume? What do you do to keep up with market news?" For my specific interview, there were no curveballs, all straightforward. Most people, when asked their job function, like to give meaning or purpose to their title. The specific team I interviewed with at UBS provided none of that. I could not get anyone to say one positive thing about working for their team or the company as a whole. Every question I asked for the interviewer was met with either unenthusiastic or negative responses. In addition, was told this position was essentially sitting in front of a computer screen for 10 hours a day in addition to prospecting for clients. They wanted to make sure you were cool with the cold calling part. While I appreciate the honesty, seems like a terrible sell for an internship, or any job really. Maybe it was just the specific team I was interviewing for. Maybe it was a bad day. Maybe they weren't interested. Whichever it was, the floor I was on just didn't seem like a happy place to work. It was half empty in the middle of a work week and there was zero interaction between anybody I witnessed. The reception area was the liveliest part of the interview.

One online zoom call with PWM advisor and associate. Mostly behavioral and market questions - be prepared for some some scenario analysis (ex: if a client won the lottery for $50,000,000 - how you invest it and what is the breakdown across asset classes).
