I was flown down to interview for admission to the BBSP program, which is an umbrella program that allows you to choose from one of fourteen degree programs after your first year. During the interview day, I had five 30 minute interviews with PIs.

There was no interview for the chemistry PhD program. There was a academic application and once admitted you were brought to campus for a visitation weekend to get to know the department

I interviewed through BBSP, the umbrella program that encompasses all of the biological programs and departments. I met with four faculty members for 45 minute interviews in which they described their research to me and I described my research to them. It was laid back and casual, although you should ask lots of questions and show enthusiasm if you want to get accepted into the program.
