I applied for a operations position with the DIA and believed that was the reason I was invited to DC for an interview as a part of their job fair. Upon arriving, I spent several hours waiting to be interviewed. When I was called in, I was very surprised to find that I was being interviewed by an Analyst working for CENTCOM. I had no analyst experience or any interest in becoming an analyst. As it turned out, I was requested for the interview because I was from a town where the interviewer had family. I spent an hour speaking with the interviewer who stated his surprise at my understanding of the current situation in Afghanistan, "despite not being an analyst." I spent $600 out of pocket to attend an interview with an individual who knew I was neither qualified or interested in fulfilling the position I was being interviewed for. I was never compensated for this expense, or given an opportunity to interview for the positions I was actually interested in and qualified for. While the interviewer was a pleasant person to speak with, his unprofessional reason for requesting I come all the way to DC for an interview, was an enormous waste of my time and money and possibly ruined my chances at being interviewed for the position I had actually applied for.
