The process starts with taking a practice ASVAB. some people have to wait for a few months in order for the job they want to become available but will eventually get what they want, do not take what the recruiter tells you unless you don't care or absolutely have to join immediately. Then all of the necessary paperwork to find a contract for you. After the questions with the recruiter you get sent to MEPS to be processed, get pledged in and then sent off to boot camp.

There was/is no process. You must know what you want to do, and be qualified to do it in accordance with your ASVAB score, and there must be openings available. DO not take your second choice just to get in. Hold out for what you want. Otherwise you could be miserable for the length of your contract and your career set back.
