      IT Intern Interview

      Jun 10, 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at USAA in Feb 2012

      Interview

I met the representatives at a career expo and applied for the position online. The process involved a 1:1 interview off-site and then a 1:1 on-site interview. For the initial 1:1 We talked about myself and what USAA stood for. The questions were mainly critical thinking. The interview was really casual and was pretty easy. It felt really weird as the critical thinking questions were not that technical and it seemed as if I had to say certain buzz words. In Between: Afterwards, I was invited to an onsite tour and interview. The on-site: I arrived a day early and stayed at a hotel and attended a dinner with USAA recruiters. The next day I was bussed to the campus and spent most of the day there. Most of the time on-site was learning about USAA and walking around. I think the actual interview was less than an hour. The on-site interview: The interview was not difficult, talking about myself and asking some general technical questions. The questions were mainly about myself and how I handle conflict and risk. My advice: Be honest! Character is a very big thing they screen, make sure not to over exaggerate or lie. Be relaxed, the interviews were not hard, and believe me other companies have had me sit down and write out lines of code or take programming tests. They are interviewing not just for someone who can do the job, but can empathize with the military community and their service.

Pretty standard, 3 questions for OA then an interview with the potential team. But the behavioral questions they asked were very specific and were not the general ones you would find online. Also the vibe depends on the people who you interview with.
