I applied in-person. I interviewed at Ulta Beauty (Colorado Springs, CO) in Feb 2018
Interview
I got a call to an interview the day after I applied. I did my research on the company and dressed appropriately. When I got to the interview I was asked how I was with make up. Keep in mind I applied as a hairstylist not make up artist, not a sales associate but a hairstylist. Hair. And I'm an honest person and I don't lie about skills I don't have. So I told her that honestly I'm not that great at it. I know the products and can sell but I'm not very good at it because I'm allergic to literally all make up. This lady literally scoffed. I'm not even exaggerating which is the saddest most unprofessional thing to happen. She then proceeds to ask me then why did you apply? I can't even describe the salty rudeness in her voice. After a few more rude questions the interview is over and she said she will call in the next week to let me know. But I know she's not going to let me know. If I have any advice for upper management it's to retake an etiquette class. Interviewees are people too. And they also lost a customer.
The regional manager was ghosting me when I made several attempts inquiring about the position as hairstylist. I interviewed in February of 2020 and was accepted the position. Sadly Covid came.
I applied/inquired two times after Covid and the manager never called me back. When I finally got her on the phone she was very abrupt, dismissive, and said she is not hiring. That was not true, they are hiring.

General manager was super sweet, I think every location is different, My location was a new one so everything went by quickly. You need to do a practical interview as well.
