Disorganized, Unprofessional, and Disrespectful Interview Process
I rarely right reviews but I felt so disrespected during this process I felt I had to. I had one of the worst interview experiences of my career with Uniqlo two years ago. The process consisted of four stages: an initial screening call, an interview with the CRM manager and another manager, an in-person assessment in London, and a final call with a stakeholder based in Japan.
The in-person stage required travel to London, which I was happy to do, but the experience itself was disappointing. The test felt outdated and not reflective of modern CRM practices. The CRM manager arrived late and appeared rushed, and the interview ended abruptly without a proper close or even being shown out, which left a poor impression. The overall atmosphere felt dismissive rather than welcoming.
Communication throughout the process was inconsistent. After the in-person stage, I had a final call with a representative in Japan who came across as abrupt and, at times, discourteous. I was then told I would hear back soon, but several weeks passed with no update.
Eventually, I received an unexpected call from HR that initially sounded like an offer was forthcoming, only to be told they still had additional candidates to interview. This created confusion and raised expectations unnecessarily. After waiting a few more weeks, I received an automated rejection email with no feedback. Overall, the process felt poorly coordinated and majorly lacking in respect for candidates' time and effort, especially given the multiple stages and travel involved. Regardless of outcome, candidates deserve clear communication, professionalism, and basic courtesy throughout the recruitment process.
Advice to Management:
Improve communication timelines, ensure interviewers are prepared and respectful of candidates' time, and review the relevance of assessment materials to reflect current industry standards.
