Very lengthy, but there’s a lot of steps in the process to get any job at an airport (background, physical, etc...).
I appliced initially online after finding out UAL was looming for Ramp Service Agents. Almost immediately following, I was invited to complete a “personality test” online. Think hard, really hard before doing this - they ask trick questions and aren’t always looking for what you think they may be looking for. Plus, they ask many questions over and over in different ways, so make sure you’re reading what’s being asked of you.
You’ll also watch videos about United’s goals and expectations of each employee.
Within two days I had a brief “text message” interview with questions being asked and my responses simply needing to be a “Y” or “N.” These we’re generalized questions like “do you agree to working any shift” & “are you physically able to lift 50+ LBS?”
Within 24 hours I was emailed an invitation for a hiring event/group interview at their offices at SFO. There was only one date/time to choose from & they made it seem as if you would be out of luck if that didn’t work for you. You had to RSVP to the event.
Once there, there were about 50-60 of us. They escorted us to a large room, showed company videos, gave the job descriptions, and explained benefits.
They then interviewed us in the order in which we showed up that morning to the event (it pays to be early!).
The invite said you’d hear within a day or two should you be offered a position, however I was offered a contingent job offer on the spot. It pays to show a lot of enthusiasm towards both aviation as well as a passion of customer service.
