Applied online, spoke to a California-based recruiter for phone interview the next day and in-person interview the day after. General questions about experience, education, and computer proficiency. Both interviews appeared to go very well, although at the in-person interview I was informed that the job description was misleading and didn't quite convey what the position entailed, especially in regard to customer service. Also, it was strongly implied that after the training course is done employees work from home. In trying to develop a career, the lack of visibility from telecommuting did not sound appealing.
A couple days later I received a call from a number I did not recognize and allowed it to go to voicemail. A quick Google search showed that the number was for an outsourced talent acquisition company out of Mumbai. Returned the call to find that the most recent training course was full, but I could be put on a back-up list. It was difficult to understand the woman on the phone and she kept talking about wages (just below $14/hr) and did I accept. I requested to see the offer in writing before I agreed to anything, but she repeatedly said she needed to me to say yes or no at that exact moment. I finally agreed and she sent me a form-email offer of contingent employment that required I take a drug test. I went the next day and the Mumbai-recruiter called my cellphone just as I was entering the testing facility to remind me that I had to take the drug test. I told her I was outside and just about to go in and she again reminded me to take the drug test. I, again, told her I was quite literally minutes away from taking the test... and she again reminded me to take the drug test. She was so caught up reading her script she couldn't actually listen to the words I was saying.
The start date came and passed, they never needed to call in the back-ups. A couple weeks later I received a call from the California-based recruiter informing me that another training class was going to start soon and offered me the position then. In the meantime I had interviewed and received a job offer for a position paying more. I informed her of such and she said the initial offer of just under $14 was non-negotiable, so I passed.
