I interviewed at Urban Outfitters (London, England)
Interview
Initial call with the HR manager (who was lovely) followed by a zoom call with the Head of Design. She was also lovely and really approachable. She asked me a little bit about my experience etc, and following this she requested I prepare a project for them. Which is very standard in this industry.
The project was to research and present trend boards for the next season for the different Urban Outfitters customer/sensibilities. Identifying key shape, print and fabrications for this also .
I was then asked to go in and present the project in person to the Head of Design, who then progressed me on to the next stage to meet and present to the Managing Director and Design Director of the brand.
This was by far the most intimidating part of the process, being that they were so senior at Urban Outfitters . However they put me at ease and were very polite and professional when I met with them.
They were very complimentary about the presentation I showed, and asked questions about me, my career, and my experience. They shared a bit about their career history too and also their hopes for the growth of Urban. It was a really great meeting and positive interview.
My only disappointment was the length of time it took to communicate and set up each meeting. I do understand these things take time though, especially when hiring at a management level.
The decision making and feedback post-interview took some time too. The HR manager let me know that at last minute someone internal applied, and they decided to go with them. They felt potentially my experience would be better in a senior creative role, which I also felt and agreed with after the interview.
Again, a positive experience/interview process all round.
