      Sales Associate Interview

      Jul 30, 2012
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Farmington, CT
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Urban Outfitters (Farmington, CT) in Jun 2012

      Interview

When I went in to apply, I connected with a few of the employees, which I thought would be a really good thing. They said they'd talk to the manager and star my application & everything. I got called for a group interview a few weeks later, but missed the call so I called back and an associate took my message and told me the hiring manager would call me back to confirm. She never did, but I went to the interview anyways thinking maybe she was too busy to call back. I was in a group with 5 other people, and the manager took us to a seating area in the middle of the mall. She took notes on our answers and tried to make it more of a conversational, friendly atmosphere. This was all cool and seemed easy enough, but from the start, she seemed to have a stink with me after finding out that she messed up the confirmation (there was another girl with the same name as me in the group, so she was confused, hence not calling me back; legitimate misunderstanding, but not a reason to write me off from the start). She chatted it up with everyone else when they answered and just said "next" whenever I would answer, barely writing down any notes for me. When it was over I asked her if she wanted my resume (I blanked out and left it at home, still figured it wouldn't hurt to ask) and she said to just email it. Turns out the website was down that night, so I thought that that was convenient and just brought it in the next day, hoping it would look better. Found the same manager, and she looked at me like I had four heads when I approached her. I reminded her I was in the interview group the other day cause she was looking at me so funny. Her reply? "yeah, I know" with a snippy attitude. She took the resume and walked away. No "thank you", no "goodbye", no "I'll let you know". Never got a call-back or email. I really had no idea what I did...I followed up after every step, was true to myself, and even made inside connections! Really disappointed as I was SO excited to possibly work there and thought I had a good chance at getting a job.
